Ponds make superb focal points, they extend the range of plants that can be grown and bring wildlife into the garden. To get a balanced healthy pond you need to plant at different levels, have floating or bottom rooting oxygenating plants, include some hiding places for fish and other pond life. It is an advantage to pond balance to have some moving water this could be a fountain, a water fall or other type of water flow connected to a filtration system. The submerged plants help in removing excess nutrients from the water which would otherwise turn the water green and fuel the growth of algae.
